First NKF dialysis centre within hospital for integrated care

The new NKF Dialysis Centre Supported by Keppel, which is strategically co-located with Yishun Community Hospital and adjacent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital – the first of its kind in Singapore to be integrated within a hospital compound – was officially opened on 10 April 2022 by Minister for Health, Mr Ong Ye Kung. It also the first of NKF’s dialysis centres to offer fully integrated and seamless dialysis care for both haemodialysis (HD) patients – with its 22 dialysis stations that can accommodate 132 HD patients – and peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients at a new PD clinic within the centre.

The partnership with the hospitals also ensures that our patients enjoy continuity of care with the smooth and timely transfer from one setting to another, through connected networks of healthcare teams, information flow and treatment care plans. NKF is also working towards integrating dialysis centres with other community hospitals.

Keppel Corporation, through its philanthropic arm, Keppel Care Foundation, generously donated $2 million to establish the dialysis centre.

This current dialysis centre is also much more convenient for me. It is only a five-minute walking distance away from home.

What is unique about this centre is that it is the first NKF centre offering both haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis services under one roof. This shared care model enables NKF to work closely with Yishun Community Hospital and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, to better manage the diverse needs of patients.

“We should think about in future how to integrate dialysis centres with other healthcare settings.
It would make a lot more sense. So, to be located in a community hospital, I hope this is a start.”
