Boosting Immunity

It goes without saying that a balanced diet is the key to staying in the pink of health. Reach for these foods the next time you go grocery shopping – they contain vitamins and minerals that boost the immune system.

Fill half your plate with vegetables of different colours. Eating a rainbow helps to boost immunity and fight infection.

Dark leafy vegetables
Spinach, broccoli, chye sim, kale

Orange and yellow fruits and vegetables
Carrots, grapefruits, bell peppers, oranges

Fill a quarter of your plate with wholegrains, which are rich in vitamins B and E, minerals and dietary fibre. They boost energy levels and help promote the feeling of satiety, which is integral in maintaining a healthy body weight.

Wholegrains
Brown rice, wholemeal/wholegrain bread, oats, barley, millet

Fill the remaining quarter of your plate with protein. Oily fish, walnuts and flax seeds are not only rich in protein but also omega-3 fatty acids which have been shown to be helpful in the prevention of heart disease and stroke.

Oily fish
Tuna, mackerel, herring, sardine

Plant-based protein
Nuts, beans, tofu, tempeh
