“A family that goes through thick and thin together, stick together.”
“Taking care of a half paralysed, wheelchair-bound amputee like me is definitely not easy. Showering is an easy daily task for others. But for me, I can only shower three times a week when the volunteer is here to help along with my daughters assisting. We are really very fortunate to have daughters like Arina and Ariani.”
“From a young age, my sister Ariani and I have been the caretakers to our ailing parents. Since our secondary school days, both have suffered from stroke one after the other. Amongst other illnesses such as diabetes, their kidneys have also deteriorated over the years. They require dialysis treatment thrice weekly, adding to the complexity of our caregiving responsibilities.
Despite the challenges in juggling with various responsibilities such as school work and exams, and giving up our free time, we find strength and positivity in supporting each other. Sometimes, we even wonder if these illnesses are a blessing in disguise as they forced our parents to stop working so hard for the family, and can now have a good rest at home.
Today, with financial, welfare and other support assistance from partners and volunteers such as NKF, we can finally focus our energy and time on other commitments, such as full-time work and general family needs.”
– Ms Siti Nur Arina, 29, with teary eyes that reflect both weariness and resilience, recounts her experience and the daily blessings amidst tribulation.
“Despite my weight of about 100kg and many medical illnesses, I try to help out and be as independent as possible by taking care of myself and looking after my wife. I also carry out light duties and household chores at home to alleviate the burden on my daughters and continue to be the fatherly figure to my daughters.”
– Mr Abdul Rahman, 64 years old, on dialysis for 3 years
