Mr Alvin Ong is the Chief Information Officer of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) responsible for driving the IT agenda across the University. Working closely with the NTU senior management team, he leads his team to be a key partner providing systems and technology solutions to drive and support University-wide initiatives across the academic, research and administrative domains. Currently, he is spearheading the multi-year IT strategic plan to transform the IT portfolio and create a connected university based on cloud-first, mobile-enabled, data-informed and security-by-design digital platforms.
Prior to joining NTU, Mr Ong was the group CIO for Alexandra Health System, the public healthcare group that manages Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Yishun Community Hospital and Admiralty Medical Centre. He has over 20 years’ experience in healthcare spanning major healthcare organizations such as Alexandra Health, SingHealth and National Healthcare Group.
An active participant in professional associations and community service, Mr Ong was a past President of IT Management Association (ITMA). He is currently serving as a Board Member and IT Committee chair of HCA Hospice Care, Singapore’s largest home hospice care provider. He is a certified program evaluator and has been participating in the accreditation of computer science and engineering degrees for the Engineering Accreditation Board (EAB) since 2008. He had served as adjunct faculty in Singapore Management University and distinguished professional for the Republic Polytechnic.
Mr Ong holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honors) from the National University of Singapore and a MBA from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom. He is also appointed a Fellow member of the Singapore Computer Society. He was honored by IDG as the “CIO of the Year (Leadership)” in the CIO50 ASEAN 2020 award and placed 5th in the top 50 CIOs in ASEAN and Hong Kong in December 2020.
