Polycystic Kidney Disease
Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is the most common inherited cause of kidney failure in adults. This genetic condition causes the development of cysts from the nephrons. Cysts are abnormal pouches containing fluid. Eventually, the cysts replace normal kidney tissue and the person with this condition suffers kidney failure.
Signs & Symptoms
Dull pain at the side of
the abdomen and back
Blood in urine
Frequent urinary
tract infection
Upper abdominal
discomfort (liver and pancreatic cysts)
High blood pressure (Hypertension)
