“Now that both my legs are gone, things are not going to be the same…”
“I have to start from square one…”
“I have to reconstruct the way I do things…”
– Mdm Nalini J Ball, 51 years old, on dialysis for 3 years
It’s hard to imagine a life with no legs, failed kidneys and diabetes, but double amputee Mdm Nalini J Ball lives every day with gusto – independent and never allowing her physical disabilities to limit her. Yet, it wasn’t like that at first.
“When I saw my legs turn black, I felt like I lost everything,” said Nalini. Amidst the darkness, she found a glimmer of hope. A cheerful fellow amputee whom she met made her think, “if he can be so happy, why can’t I?” She realised that dwelling on her sadness would not change her circumstances. Instead, she started to focus on what she could control and found joy in every present moment. Now, she takes strangers’ stares as an opportunity for her to raise awareness about diabetes and kidney health.
Through her battle with kidney failure, she demonstrated that life still holds immense meaning. Her journey reminds us to stay positive amidst life’s obstacles, embrace the journey, and turn our challenges into opportunities to inspire others.
By giving generously, you are a beacon of hope for our kidney failure patients like Mdm Nalini. Your compassion and love will motivate them to persevere through life!
